The America/Barbie Speech (Stop the War Squared)
Below is the final version of the iconic speech by America Ferrera from the Barbie movie, written by Greta Gerwig. The text goes around the edges in concentric squares This is challenging even in digital form, but with hand set type, it is a different story. In Letteprress all the type must be locked up tight before printing, so all spacing must be filled, even with old paneling from my kitchen remodel. The text starts at the outside with 48 point type in two rows, The next two rows use 30 point type in a slightly lighter color. Some editing has been necessary due to the demands of the designer, who is insane, and the demands of letterpress printing (never again.) The red square in the center is made up of STOP THE WAR ON WOMEN in a repeating pattern, overprinted with “EVERYTHING IS YOUR FAULT” in whit/silver ink. Printed on Mohawk Superfine soft white paper. Enjoy!
